While many countries will be celebrating a white Christmas surrounded by snow, in South Africa we celebrate the festive season outside by the pool! To make your holiday especially special, The Pool Team have put together some ideas to help you create a focal point out of your pool area.
- Floating Christmas trees
Use balloons and gut string to creating floating Christmas trees. Simply attach the balloons to each other vertically, in a triangular shape, to create a tree design. Use a weight attached to the string at the bottom to keep the trees from flying away once in the pool. Take your floating Christmas trees to a new level, by topping the trees with a star-shaped balloon.
- Light up the night
Line your pool with hundreds of tea light candles. The soft light from the small candles will create an elegant and mystical atmosphere to elevate any holiday party. Take the magical feel a step further by stringing fairy lights around the plants and trees around your pool area.
- Mistletoe is not only for doors
Who says mistletoe is simply for hanging on the ceiling? Use plastic mistletoe or flowers in the shape of a wreath to create a festive look inside the pool. Simply place the plastic items in the pool and let them float away. Elevate this look with a few floating candles and your party will automatically feel that much more festive.
- DIY candy canes
Use pool noodles and your creativity to create candy cane decorations. Shape your pool noodle into a candy cane shape by inserting a wire into the centre and bending it into the desired shape. If you cannot find the traditional red and white striped pattern, be creative and use white ribbon to create the traditional candy cane striped.
- Glowing gifts
Create glowing gift boxes to place in and around your pool area. Simply use battery powered glowing boxes and attach a ribbon, tying it into a bow. These gift boxes will emphasise the Christmas theme of your party and add a festive theme to the evening.
Always remember that all lighting within 5 feet of your pool should be solar or battery operated, and there should always be someone ready to watch guests who are swimming in the pool.
