Pool floaters aren’t the only option for pool chlorination, but if you have opted to use one or would like to find out more about them, here’s all you need to know.
Floating chlorinators are an alternative to manually adding chlorine to your pool every few days or installing a costly automatic chlorinator. The way it works is that the floating dispenser is placed in the pool water with chlorine tablets inside. The dispenser has openings or vents that allow the chlorine tablet to slowly dissolve and make its way into the pool, keeping it blue and clean.
This device makes provisions for any mishaps, allowing you to open the vents wider when and if your pool becomes murky and requires more chlorine.
STABILISED OR UNSTABILISED?
When it comes to deciding on a pool floater and suitable chlorine for your pool, there are two things to consider: whether to add stabilised or unstabilised chlorine.
Stabilised chlorine is the form of the substance containing an added chemical called cyanuric acid which helps the chlorine not to react with the sun and stay in the pool longer. Unstabilised chlorine may sound like something that could explode any minute, but what it really means is that it does not have cyanuric acid, causing the chlorine to react and dissolve quickly when exposed to the sun.
Choosing one of the two options becomes important here because your pool may require the one over the other. Outdoor pools that get direct sunlight require stabilised chlorine in order to last longer in the pool and keep it clean. Unstabilised chlorine should be used in indoor pools because the sun does not affect the chlorine. It’s also suitable for shocking an outdoor pool or for any other occasion where you’d like to deliver a high dose of chlorine and make sure it’s gone soon after.
SMALL POOL OR JACUZZI
Floating chlorinators are also available for small pools and hot tubs, working in just that same way as those suitable for regular household pools, but delivers a smaller dosage of chlorine and keep the water free of bacteria and bad smells.
Maintaining your pool doesn’t need to be a hassle, you can simply make use of a floating chlorinator which does most of the work for you. If you’re still having trouble finding the perfect balance for your pool, contact an expert at The Pool Team to assist you.
