How to Fix a Green Salt Water Pool

How to Fix a Green Salt Water Pool
Posted in: Green Pool, DIY

Is your salt water pool green? Are you afraid to add chemicals as it may affect your salt chlorinator? The Pool Team is here to assist and put your mind at ease! A green salt water pool is very easily treatable. Here’s how.

The truth is, treating a green salt water pool is no different to treating a chlorine pool. There is a common misconception that chlorine cannot be used in a salt water pool, however, this is incorrect. A salt water pool can and should still be treated with chlorine and other necessary chemicals when it is green. The Pool Team recommends treating a green pool with our 3 Step Process. This process is the use of 3 specific chemicals designed to kill algae, sanitise the water and keep it crystal clear.

The chemicals used in the 3-step process are:

Aqua Pro Algaecide is used to kill algae in the pool. This is the first step to clearing up the water. The Aqua Pro Oxidiser is then used to sanitise the water. Once the oxidiser has been added, the water might be cloudy. The Aqua Pro Clarifier is used to clear up the cloudiness, making the water sparkling blue and ready to swim in.

Follow these easy steps to implement the 3-step process (based on a 50 000 litre pool):

  1. Always remember to get the basics right first: Test the water; clean out the weir and pump baskets; backwash and rinse. This is to ensure that you obtain the best results from the products added.
  2. With the pool system on bypass/circulate, through the weir, add 2 litres Aqua Pro Algaecide, followed by 750 grams Aqua Pro Oxidiser.
  3. After the oxidizer has been added, the pool may become cloudy. Run the filter for 12 hours.
  4. Add 2 litres Aqua Pro Clarifier through the weir for a crystal-clear pool.
