How to Position Your Aimflows

How to Position Your Aimflows

Do you know how to position the aimflows in your swimming pool? You might be asking why this would make a difference. Let’s discuss the role of the aimflow in the swimming pool system and how to position them in order to ensure a sufficient flow of water throughout the pool.

What is the Aimflow?

The aimflow is the fitting on the wall of the pool that directs the water back into the pool after having run through the system.

The Flow of Water Through a Pool

The below diagram explains the flow of water through the pool system.

The water flows through the pool system as follows:

  • From the weir
  • Through the suction line
  • To the pump
  • Through the filter
  • Through the heat pump or solar panels
  • Through the chlorinator
  • Through the return line
  • Back into the pool via the aimflow

How to Position the Aimflow

The position of the aimflow affects two things:

  • The angle of the aimflow plays a role in determining how efficiently the water is circulated in the pool once it has been returned from the system. If angled correctly, the aimflow helps to evenly distribute chemicals throughout the entire pool.
  • If there are multiple aimflows in the pool, it is recommended to angle them all in the same direction so as to facilitate the circulation of the water.
  • If the aimflow is angled incorrectly, the water flow coming back into the pool will limit the movement of the pool cleaner hoses, leading to the pool cleaner being unable to access that part of the pool.

Pro Tip

In order for chemicals to be evenly distributed throughout the pool, the water should flow from the bottom to the top of the pool. Angling the aimflow 45 degrees downwards will not only assist with chemical distribution, it will also prevent the water flow from affecting the pool cleaner hoses on the surface, allowing the pool cleaner to reach all areas of the pool.
