How to Clear a Cloudy Pool in 48 Hours

How to Clear a Cloudy Pool in 48 Hours

There is nothing more frustrating than having a cloudy pool. The Pool Team is here to assist you in clearing your cloudy pool water within 48 hours! Here’s how.

It is common amongst pool owners to add more chemicals than necessary in an attempt to maintain the cleanliness and clarity of the water. But this can actually have the opposite effect. Adding too many chemicals can result in a cloudy pool. Cloudy pool water may also be due to a high pH or floating microscopic debris. It is therefore important to test the water regularly to ensure that the pH and Total Alkalinity are always in balance in order for the chlorine and all the other chemicals to work effectively.

The recommended pH levels in a pool are between 7.2 and 7.8. If your pool’s pH level is higher than 7.8, the recommended solution is to add 250ml of Aqua Pro Acid through the weir. Watch this video to learn more about how to reduce the pH in a pool.

However, if your pH is within range, to reduce the cloudiness of the pool water, you would need to add a clarifier or a flocculent.

Clarifiers cause small particles of dirt to coagulate (bond together to form bigger particles) so that the pool filter is able to catch them.

To use the Aqua Pro Clarifier, follow this easy step-by-step process (based on a 50 000 litre pool):

  • Always remember to get the basics right first: Test the water; clean out the weir and pump baskets; backwash and rinse. This is to ensure that you obtain the best results from the products added.
  • Remove the pool cleaner.
  • Mix 1 bottle of clarifier with 5 litres of water in a bucket.
  • With the pump on Bypass/re-circulate, pour the contents of the bucket around the sides of the pool and allow to circulate for 2 hours.
  • After 2 hours, turn the pump off for 24 hours. If there are small amounts of debris on the pool floor, the pool cleaner should pick it up. However, if there are large amounts of debris then it would need to be manually vacuumed to waste.
  • Continue with your normal filtration and sanitation routine.

The Aqua Pro Aluminium Sulphate (Alum Powder) is a flocculent that causes suspended particles to sink to the bottom of the pool floor. They can then be vacuumed up with a manual pool vacuum.

To use Alum Powder, follow this easy step-by-step process (based on a 50 000 litre pool):

  • Always remember to get the basics right first: Test the water; clean out the weir and pump baskets; backwash and rinse. This is to ensure that you obtain the best results from the products added.
  • Turn the pool system off and remove the pool cleaner.
  • Turn the system to Bypass and mix 2 kg’s of Aqua Pro Aluminium Sulphate Flocculant (Alum Powder) in a bucket with water. Pour the mixture through the weir.
  • Allow to circulate for 6 to 8 hours then switch the system off.
  • Allow the water to settle for 12 hours while the flocculant coagulates the debris and sinks to the bottom of the pool.
  • Switch the system onto waste and manually vacuum the sediment off the bottom of the pool.  Replenish with fresh water. It is important to manually vacuum to waste and not to the filter as the coagulated debris can get stuck in the filter and cause a blockage. Watch this video to learn more on how to add Aluminium Sulphate Flocculant.
